The NOVA Open through my lens

This year, over 26,000 athletes across the globe competed in the 2011 Reebok CrossFit Games Open, all trying to make the top 60 spots for their respective regions, in order to move on to the Reebok CrossFit Games Regionals.  From March 19 to April 30, Patriot CrossFit hosted the 2011 NOVA Open, which was created to bring local CrossFit boxes together so athletes could compete in the 6 grueling CrossFit Games Open events that occurred over a six week period.  Approximately 16 CrossFit boxes from Virginia, Maryland, and DC, 90+ athletes, countless spectators, and the amazing volunteers truly turned the NOVA Open into an epic event.

So why are these athletes putting their bodies through this?  In July, the Reebok CrossFit Games will host the top three men and women from each of the 17 Regionals where they will be compete for the top spot and the title of Fittest Man/Women on Earth.  Additionally, a $250,000 check will come with the title, so competition is going to be intense.
The NOVA Open was just the beginning of the 2011 Reebok CrossFit Games season.  During the NOVA Open, my team and I captured over 5,000 images showing the strength and determination of the competitors.  I look forward to covering some of the Reebok CrossFit Games Regional events across the country to help tell the stories of these athletes.

Here are some of the highlights of the NOVA Open through my lens.
