CrossFit Games Open Workout 12.3 Coverage

Three CrossFit Open workouts are now complete and we have two left to finish out the 2012 Open season.  Once the Open season is complete, the top competitors will move on to the Regional events where the top three men, women and teams travel to the Games.  Every Wednesday night, 60,000 registered athletes across the world wait for CrossFit HQ to announce the next workout.  The first two workouts consisted of a single movement, Burpees and Olympic Snatch, while the third incorporated three common CrossFit movements, Box Jumps, Push-Press and Toes-to-bar.  CrossFit Relentless in West Hartford, CT was kind enough to have me photograph their athletes battling through this 18 minute workout.

As a photographer who has covered CrossFit for several years, I knew that both Box Jumps and Toes-to-bar are very fast movements and in order to create successful images I would need to stop the action.  When you stop the action, you bring the focus to the athlete, their form and the movement, which is always my goal.  Here are some of my favoriate images from 12.3.
