Winter Wonderland

Another year and another major snowstorm.  Growing up in New England I’ve seen my share of snow and when a winter storm hits I can’t help but think about my 2009 experience in Washington D.C.  Being a photographer and living in an area that does not experience large amounts of snow, I set out to capture the city during this unique time.  The snow was still falling when I set out to explore Georgetown and Downtown.

By the end of the day, 15 inches of snow had accumulated.  If I had only known that D.C. would discontinue Metro service to VA by the time I was ready to head home.  The only way home was on foot… yes, I walked from D.C. to Arlington, VA in blizzard conditions.   Crossing the 14th Street bridge was the toughest part with the high winds.  The camera I had tucked away in my jacket stopped working half way across the bridge.  It was a day to remember, that’s for sure.

Here is a look back at my favorite images and some added behind the scene shots.
