Needing to get away from the concrete jungle, I ventured two hours east to St. Michaels, MD. An hour into the drive, my surroundings were changing from apartment buildings to lush green fields, boat docks, and fishing boats. This is exactly what I was hoping for and I got it. After crossing the Bay Bridge, I traveled south along RT 50 until the first signs of St. Michaels appeared. I didn’t know exactly what was ahead of me, but anything was going to be better than being in my office. Upon entering the quaint downtown, I quickly knew the two hour drive was worth it.
St. Michaels is situated on the Chesapeake Bay and walking along the cute roads just added to the experience. My first stop was the Eastern Shore Microbrewery. I’ll be writing a separate blog entry on the Eastern Shore soon, so stay tuned. The atmosphere was great, they had live music and everyone was enjoying the four beers on tap. A wine/beer festival happened to be taking place in the town and Eastern Shore was participating the in the event.
After the Mircobrewery, I had to enjoy some lunch, so I headed toward the water and had a great lunch at St. Michaels Crab and Steak House. Sitting by the water and feeling the sun on my back was one of the highlights of the road trip. As you can see, I had to snap a picture of the cup served to me. This saying cracked me up and it was part of the restaurants branding.
There were some notable local establishments I felt compelled to photograph. The first was the local saloon and then the ice cream parlor.
Before heading home, I had to check out the local coffee shop. The brownies were great and the iced latte was a favorite among the patrons. This will not be the last time to St. Michaels and I look forward to my next visit.
