>Another part of St. Augustine’s history is the Castillo de San Marcos fort and it was on my list of places to photograph. The stone walls showed the 300 plus years of wear and tear and it definitely earned it’s national monument status. Some important facts: The fort’s construction started in 1672 and was built to protect and defend Spain’s claim to the New World. It is the only 17th century fort in North America.
