Destination….. Logan, OH

>

I had a great opportunity this past weekend to travel to Logan, OH as a photographer for CrossFit Headquarters.  The Central East Regional competition was taking place over three days and I was documenting the accomplishments of some amazing athletes.  Athletes representing CrossFit affiliates from Ohio, Kentucky, Michigan, Indiana, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware, Washington, D.C., West Virginia and Virginia converged on this little southeastern town in Ohio.

Every year CrossFit hosts the CrossFit Games in order to find the “fitness man and women on earth”.  Not only do the winners gain this title, but also take home a $25,000 cash prize!  The first stage is to compete in Sectionals games, which I had the pleasure of photographing as well, back in March (view link to see my three images).  The qualifying athletes move on to the Regional competition, where the top three men and women from each Regional head to California for the CrossFit Games in July.

The event in Logan, OH was held outside on beautiful rural land.  Although most of the competitions were held in one section of the field, the location provided a great space for a 5k run, which included a 800m sharp hill climb where men had to carry a 50lb sand bag and women had to carry a 20lb sand bag on their back.

Overall, the event was a success.  The weather was a mix of hot and cold, but luckily no rain.  My camera gear worked well and I used both my 28-135 and 70-200 lens.  Thankfully I bought I new gear bag prior to the event since the hill climb provided an off road travel experience I didn’t expect.

CrossFit Headquarters posted my images on their main site each day.  It was a thrill to see my name in print and images displayed.  The links below will send you to each day’s recap.
